How To Use Your Downtime

#StayHome is all we see for the past few weeks on social media stories and posts. The last few weeks have been a tough for the entire nation as routines change, mindsets are shifting and perceptions alter. Essential workers are becoming real life superheroes, for the first time in their careers most people remotely work from home and all of us are trying to adapt to this new stay safe routine.

It's been amazing to see through everything and show support to each other and it makes you think all these amazing things that people are doing with their downtime.

Allowing ourselves to have a break and not feel guilty about it is one thing we all need to do. YES, do learn a new skill, finish that Business Assignment or start a new hobby, but also give yourselves the time for relaxation and do things that bring you joy and that inner peace - binge watching Netflix still, thanks for asking ;).

So here are a few things that I have seen going around social media, blogs and websites that i personally like the idea of spending my downtime...

Take an online lesson

Generally I am an interactive person and I love using my senses and therefore, taking an online lesson is something I've never really done. The past few weeks I have been watching so many people I follow doing online gym sessions at home and its also something that I have started doing as well. Holmes Place my old gym in Greece has been offering a series of live gym classes and gym blogs for boosting the immune system in their website for exercises at home with no equipment, Pinterest is a great place to get ideas and start implementing new things in your life - just create a free account and you are set to go, Youtube is full of talented people that can teach you everything and anything you can think of. At the moment I have been doing workouts everyday through Pamela Reif's small workout videos and I don't think I ever enjoyed working out from home ever before. So if relaxation means learning something new then now its the time you might want to do it.

Discover Something Creative

It is fascinating to see how people embracing their creative sides as a way of relaxation and I was thinking how I could never do the same thing. I found myself the last couple of weeks scrolling through Pinterest looking for ways to fill my downtime and I made a shortlist of things I think they would be really relaxing and set weekly goals. Knitting, Cooking, Painting and Reading might now be bad ideas to get on top of yourself and if you would had told me a couple weeks before that I will be thinking that I need to fill my free time with creativity I would had said that you dont know me very well. So here is a super easy Churros recipe I tried and I think most of you will love...

New Recipes #Churros

Cooking is wonderfully therapeutic when you have time for it and you enjoy it. In self - isolation there is plenty of time to master some new cooking skills and learn some new recipes. Watch, Read & Listen

My boyfriend and I have the ability to binge watch Netflix like its an Olympic sport and we have absolutely been loving to add watching suggestions to our watchlists lately. I always thought that Kindle is a good way to read books but at the moment I am taking University deadlines into a different perspective and I am actually thinking that taking it easy and considering these deadlines as a creative way to spend your time is a better state of mind. I have always been intrigued to sit down with a nice candle, a cup of tea/coffee and relaxing music and do my Uni work, I feel like I am someone that I can't make myself sit down to read a simple book but right now I feel like I need to find some book suggestions and try changing some old habits.

Feel free to drop me your Netflix or book recommendations at the comment below or give me a message on Instagram !

Do Nothing

Utilising every second of every day is a good way to beat the quarantine blues but allowing yourself to simply do nothing too is good ! If you are like me and always feel like you need to be 100% on your toes, learning and doing then take advantage of that spare time and do just how you feel. but remember you used to work yourself into the ground either with work or Uni, commuting for hours everyday and having things getting on top of you - then maybe now is a good time to slow down those hectic paces and simply relax. Don't let anyone to make you feel guilty about it.

Pamper yourself... take a bubble bath, face masks, eye patches, comfy clothes and a hot drink. Your downtime is your own time to do what is right for you and take care of your mental health and embrace your mind and soul. Prioritise yourself and be kind to yourself.
